PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
THE KING TIDE
Boasting gutsy performances from Clayne Crawford and Lara Jean Chorostecki as the parents, and an ethereal one from Alix West Lefler as Isla, along with Inner West’s own Aden Young, The King Tide powerfully provokes the mind and the heart in equal measure.
PAVEMENTS
Playfully goofy, Pavements is built around footage of lo-fi godheads Pavement preparing for their sold-out 2022 reunion tour, but takes a variety of arresting twists and turns, including into a film-within-a-film where Stranger Things’ Joe Keery gets into character to play Pavement frontman Stephen Malkmus in a Hollywood biopic.
WHO BY FIRE
Winner of the Berlinale Generation 14plus Grand Prix. Burning slow and fierce, Philippe Lesage’s Who by Fire, a reference to the classic Leonard Cohen song, is a fascinating take on the oft-visited coming-of-age genre.
