When Agnes Varda passed away in 2019, world cinema lost one of its most vital and impassioned female voices. A humanist of the first order who left behind essential works like Cleo from 5 to 7, Vagabond and Faces Places, Varda’s creative flame burned brightly right up to her passing, with her final films just as impressive as her earliest ones.

Enlivened and encouraged by the rise of digital technologies, Agnes Varda is allowed to get up close and personal with her subjects as the iconic filmmaker explores the world of modern-day gleaners, namely those who live on the margins of society and survive by foraging amongst the detritus of what others have discarded.
