45th Anniversary of writer/director William Richert’s satirical black comedy cult thriller, WINTER KILLS (1979), endorsed by Quentin Tarantino. The film is inspired by assassination conspiracy theories surrounding President John F. Kennedy and features an all-star cast including Jeff Bridges, John Huston, Anthony Perkins, Eli Wallach, Sterling Hayden, Dorothy Malone, Toshirô Mifune, and more (hello Liz Taylor!).
Nick Keegan, the half-brother of a US President assassinated while in office, encounters a man who claims to have been one of the two hired gunmen, challenging the narrative of the lone gunman previously charged with the crime. Upon sharing this revelation with his Trumpish billionaire father, Keegan embarks on a mission to uncover the true perpetrators behind the assassination of a sitting President.
“William Richert’s brilliant and rousingly satirical Winter Kills (1979), a colorful burlesque (shot by Vilmos Zsigmond) about the JFK-assassination conspiracy, bests Three Days of the Condor by flipping its cynicism in order to ultimately provide moral inspiration — the heartening agreement and catharsis of the best political filmmaking from a culture seeking to heal itself.” – Armond White WHITE | NATIONAL REVIEW
