The stunning directorial debut of veteran indie cinematographer Sean Price Williams (GOOD TIME, HER SMELL, TESLA, MARJORIE PRIME) from first time scripter Nick Pinkerton, THE SWEET EAST is a picaresque, highly provocative journey through the cities and woods of the Eastern seaboard of the United States undertaken by Lillian (star-in-the-making Talia Ryder), a high school senior from South Carolina who gets her first glimpse of the wider world on a class trip to Washington, D.C.

Separated from her schoolmates, Lillian embarks on a fractured fairy tale travelogue into America, where she crosses paths with the strange factions – from anarchists and Muslims to pretentious creatives and seductive white supremacists – that cut swathes through the uncertain fabric of modern American life.

While the lissom, enchanting Talia Ryder dominates, the hypnotic THE SWEET EAST also provides an ample showcase for heartthrob-du-jour Jacob Elordi (SALTBURN, PRISCILLA), rising star Earl (son of Nick) Cave, and magnetic scene stealer Simon Rex from RED ROCKET.

“This shape-shifting satire about modern American subcultures is a curious, and occasionally delightful, object if you can handle its flippant treatment of taboos.” –– Beatrice Loayza | The NY TIMES
